Cold Laser Therapy in McKinney

laser therapy on armAt Craig Ranch Chiropractic, we value offering our patients the cutting-edge technology they need to heal their best. Cold laser therapy is one such service that can help patients of all ages recover from injury more quickly and effectively.

What Is It?

Cold laser therapy—you may have heard it referred to as low-level light therapy—uses specific frequencies of red and near-infrared light. As the light passes through your skin into the tissues below, it interacts with the mitochondria of the cells, stimulating them to produce more energy. This reaction increases blood flow to the injured area, bringing oxygen and healing nutrients to help speed recovery and reduce tension and inflammation.

This technology is FDA-approved and is safe for patients of all ages. It’s called “cold” because the laser does not produce any heat, so burning or cutting is not dangerous. Any warmth you feel comes from the increase in circulation to the area.

How It Helps

Low-level light therapy can be used for a wide range of conditions, including bone fractures and wound healing. However, our practice finds it most helpful with any type of soft tissue inflammation, particularly of the extremities. Some of the common conditions we use it for include:

  • Ankle sprains
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Knee inflammation
  • Tennis/golfer’s elbow
  • Shoulder impingement
  • Trigger fingers

What to Expect

We’ll begin with a surface EMG scan and a thorough examination. Then Dr. Allam will explain his recommendations for care. If laser therapy can benefit you, he’ll let you know and work with you to create a schedule that works for you.
Each session lasts a few minutes, and patients typically feel some relief by the time the session is over. Complete healing usually takes a series of sessions. These may be combined with your chiropractic appointments, or you can come in separately for your therapy.
