The Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Daily Headaches

The Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Daily Headaches

Half of the world's adult population struggles with headaches at least once a year. Chiropractors can help relieve headaches in many ways, starting with our whole person assessments.
Your initial history and ongoing examinations can help us identify your headache triggers so Dr. Allam can advise you about the lifestyle changes you may need to find relief. And, of course, research has shown that chiropractic adjustments can go a long way toward improving headache pain.
Tension headaches are the most common kind of headache, and some people suffer from the daily. A tension headache feels like pressure, dull pain or tightness in the back of the your head or on your forehead.
Migraine headaches are recurring and generally affect one side of the head with intense throbbing pain. Nausea and sensitivity to light and sound can also accompany a migraine headache.
Cluster headaches are less common and usually recur over a period of days, or even weeks, and are often limited to one side of the head, usually behind the eye.
Dr. Allam will talk to you to discover lifestyle patterns that might provide clues about your headaches. Making changes to these patterns can, along with chiropractic, help manage primary headaches. Stress, lack of sleep, dietary choices, poor posture (including text/phone neck as well as your posture at a desk or even when you watch television) all contribute to headaches.

The benefits of massage

The benefits of massage

All of our therapists are Licensed Massage Therapists here at Craig Ranch Chiropractic with a wide range of modalities and many years of experience. The therapists regularly take continuing education classes for licensing. Using modalities such as myofascial release, cupping, pre-natal, myoskeletal alignment, reflexology, medical, sports and trigger point, our therapists are focused on resolution more that relaxtion. Working in coordination with Dr. Allam,  therapists assess each patient to determine the best technique(s) for their situation, usually combining several techniques into the massage to assist in the overall healing process.

Massage is useful for all of the conditions listed below and more...
•Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion.
•Assist with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers and shorten maternity hospital stays.
•Ease medication dependence.
•Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body's natural defense system.
•Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.
•Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
•Improve the condition of the body's largest organ—the skin.
•Increase joint flexibility.•Lessen depression and anxiety.
•Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.
•Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.
•Reduce post-surgery adhesions and swelling.
•Reduce spasms and cramping.
•Relax and soften injured, tired, and over used muscles.
•Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body's natural painkiller.
•Relieve migraine pain.

There's no denying the power of touch through massage. Regardless of the adjectives we assign to it (pampering, rejuvenating, therapeutic) or the reasons we seek it out (a luxurious treat, stress relief, pain management), massage therapy can be a powerful ally in your healthcare regimen.

Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. While eliminating anxiety and pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be idealistic, massage can, without a doubt, help manage stress, improve sleep, promote movement

What is Sciatica?

What is Sciatica?

Nearly everyone will have back pain at some point in their life, but with sciatica, you'll know something is different right away. Pain that begins in your back travels down to your buttocks, and shoots down your leg is a classic sign of sciatica. The shooting pain down your leg is caused by compression on one of the nerves exiting your spine. Even a small amount of pressure can cause a tremendous amount of pain, so getting rid of the inflammation and opening up space, the nerve is essential to find relief.

Why it Matters:Pinching, or compression on a spinal nerve can occur because of an injury to one of your spinal discs (such as disc herniation) or the development of a bone spur. Either way, it's likely to cause pain and discomfort until you can decrease the inflammation, open up space for the nerve, or improve the movement of your spinal joints.

  • Sciatica occurs when a spinal nerve gets pinched by a disc, bone spur, or ligament and can cause pain that travels down the buttocks and leg.
  • Research has discovered that 60% of people with sciatica benefitted from chiropractic adjustments to the same degree as if they underwent surgical intervention (without any of the risks!).
  • Exercise and rehab can help strengthen the muscles supporting your spine and reduce the likelihood of a relapse.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder that affects your muscles, ligaments, and tendons, causing pain and tenderness, sometimes widespread throughout your body. Besides the physical problems, fibromyalgia can negatively affect your mental health and your social life.  Fibromyalgia symptoms typically manifest in different ways and range in severity from case to case. Besides pain and tenderness in the muscles, ligaments, and tendons, other commonly reported symptoms are fatigue, poor sleep, cognitive issues; less common symptoms include depression, anxiety, migraines, headaches, digestive and gastrointestinal issues.  Stress can make your symptoms worse.
Experts don’t know the main causes of fibromyalgia, but many in the research community agree that it is a central processing disorder. Fibromyalgia patients most likely experience pain due to issues that arise in the central nervous system. Irregularities in that part of the body can affect your sensory processing. Genetics may also play a role in how likely you are to contract it. An illness or injury that results in trauma to the body can speed up and amplify the progression of fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia can be difficult to accurately diagnose. Fibromyalgia patients are often people who have tested negative for other illnesses, since symptoms can overlap with many other conditions. Dr. Allam performs spinal adjustments and manipulations that target the sources of your pain. Since fibromyalgia can involve widespread pain or acute concentrated pain, depending on your condition and response to treatment, Dr. Allam may combine one or more therapies in your treatment plan. Often with fibromyalgia patients, treatment includes soft tissue and massage therapy techniques, including traditional massage therapy, trigger point therapy, somatic therapy, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, acupressure point therapy, and rolfing.
Low back pain

Low back pain

Lower back pain can prevent you from enjoying your favorite leisure activities, going to work, or playing with your kids. If you’re not living your life to the fullest because of lower back pain, call the offices of Craig Ranch Chiropractic or use the online scheduling tool to make an appointment with Dr. Troy Allam. More than three million Americans experience lower back pain each year. This normal wear and tear on your spine causes most lower back pain. The most prevalent direct causes of lower back pain are sprains and strains. The overstretching or tearing of ligaments in the back can lead to sprains, while strains are tears in the tendons or muscles. Bending or twisting to lift heavy objects with improper form or overstretching can cause either sprains or strains, or even spasms in your back muscles.Dr. Allam provides many different types of spinal adjustments with varying techniques to give you relief and help treat your lower back pain. The procedures help regain and fully restore range of motion.  He works with each patient, taking into account medical history, symptoms, examinations, and imaging tests to determine what type of chiropractic adjustments are right for them. Pain medication, as well as therapeutic stretching and exercise, can also help alleviate and cure lower back pain. You can often prevent lower back pain if you pay close attention to how you stand, sit, and move. Proper body mechanics help you avoid movements that put pressure on and strain the back. Also, ergonomically designed furniture in your home and workplace can greatly lessen your risk of developing lower back pain. Here are some simple measures Dr. Allam suggests you keep in mind when trying to prevent lower back pain:
  • Stretch before physical activity
  • Practice good posture
  • Always wear comfortable, low-heeled shoes
  • Don’t lift objects that are too heavy
  • Don’t twist when lifting something
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet to avoid putting on excess weight
  • Don’t smoke tobacco
  • Sleep on your side in the fetal position to open up your spinal joints
